OPTUS TO BRING IMPROVED MOBILE COVERAGE TO TAMWORTH

26 October 2018

Plans to invest $4.3 million across the Tamworth region, supports Hay Mate: Buy a Bale concert

Optus today announced it will continue to improve mobile coverage across the Tamworth region with plans to switch on 11 new mobile towers this financial year.

The new towers will provide improved 4G mobile coverage and capacity for residents and visitors across the region to make and receive calls, texts and access mobile data.

Optus’ Territory Manager for North West NSW Chris Simon said, “this financial year, Optus has plans to invest a further $4.3 million in its mobile network across the Tamworth region, working with local communities to improve mobile coverage in their area.”

“We’re committed to providing great coverage to our customers in and around Tamworth, with plans to build new sites in Emerald Hill, Kingswood, Piallamore, Moonbi, Curlews, Bendemeer, Tamworth Oxley Vale, Attunga, Duri, Tamworth East and Barraba Central.”

“These new sites will join the recently completed tower in Caroll, that will improve coverage for locals and mobile reception along the Oxley Highway,” said Mr Simon.

“Optus’ network investment in and around Tamworth will not only provide improved connectivity, it will also provide real choice and competition for residents in the region.”

In addition to its mobile network, Optus will also be supporting this weekend’s Hay Mate: Buy A Bale concert as the official telecommunications partner of the event.

“With two Optus stores here in Tamworth, our team has witnessed firsthand the impact that the drought is having on local residents and businesses in the region and we are incredibly proud to be a part of this event,” Mr Simon added.

The Optus mobile network handles over 31 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 16,128 terabytes of data each week. Optus is continuing to expand and strengthen its network to deliver improved data and voice services across metropolitan, regional and remote locations nationally.

Optus continues to invest in its network to improve coverage, reliability and speed across its Australian mobile network. The Optus mobile network possesses a unique mix of technology partners, global alliances and expansive spectrum holdings that position it as a leader in the Australian telecoms landscape.
