Optus expands its coverage footprint across Northern Rivers

24 October 2018

Switches on four new sites this month

Optus has switched on four new mobile sites across the Northern Rivers, providing residents and visitors with dedicated 4G mobile coverage to make and receive calls, texts and access mobile data.

The new sites, located south of Ballina Airport, Alstonville Central, Clunes and Pimlico have all been switched on this month and will play a key role in delivering a competitive telecommunications alternative to residents and businesses across the region.

“It’s important that Optus customers in regional and rural Australia have access to reliable mobile reception. These four new sites represent a significant investment and commitment from Optus to the local communities in the Northern Rivers,” said Michael Sharpe, Optus’ Local Manager, Northern NSW.

Highlighting Optus’ commitment to the region, a further five sites will be switched-on in the area over the coming months in Nimbin, Doonbah, Culmaran Creek, Piora and Dunoon – a Federal Government Mobile Black Spot site.

“We want to make sure that residents and businesses in these areas have access to a reliable network and importantly choice when it comes to selecting their telecommunications provider and these new towers will play a key role in facilitating this,” added Mr Sharpe.

The Optus mobile network handles over 31 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 16,128 terabytes of data each week. Optus is continuing to expand and strengthen its network to deliver improved data and voice services across metropolitan, regional and remote locations nationally.

Optus continues to invest in its network to improve coverage, reliability and speed across its Australian mobile network. The Optus mobile network possesses a unique mix of technology partners, global alliances and expansive spectrum holdings that position it as a leader in the Australian telecoms landscape.
