OPTUS BUSINESS WINS STRATEGIC TELECOMMUNICATIONS AGREEMENT WITH COMMONWEALTH’S DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH

14 August 2018

The Australian Department of Health has appointed Optus Business as its whole-of-department telecommunications provider following a competitive tender process.

In a three-year deal worth $6 million, Optus Business will consolidate the Department of Health’s telecommunication products and services under a single service agreement to improve service delivery and ongoing contract management.

The new agreement includes Wide Area Network (WAN) services for the Department of Health, and a range of services including mobile and voice to the Department’s 5,000 users.

Optus Business Managing Director, John Paitaridis, said “Optus is committed to providing services that are cost effective, robust and scalable to meet the Department of Health’s current and future needs as they deliver the nation’s health and wellbeing.”

“We look forward to working with the Department of Health to support their digitalisation and innovation agenda, through the provision of high performance infrastructure and ICT services.”

The Optus solution has been designed to provide the Department of Health a resilient WAN and Voice environment which has multiple levels of redundancy and resiliency.

The Department of Health said it is looking forward to working with Optus Business to provide the Department’s employees with high quality WAN and Data Carriage, Mobile and Voice Services. The Department said this arrangement will support its national footprint, enabling its vision to support the health and wellbeing of all Australians.

Optus successfully tendered for a three-year (initial) term contract. The Department has already begun transition activities and is looking forward to a collaborative and successful relationship moving forward.

This new agreement with the Department of Health complements Optus’ long-standing partnerships with two of the Government’s largest departments, ATO and Department of Home Affairs.

“With our recent addition to the supplier panel for Department of Defence, Optus Business is now involved in supporting three of the four largest Government departments in Australia, reinforcing our position as a market leading telco and ICT provider,” said Mr Paitaridis.
