OPTUS AND VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCE ADDITIONAL MOBILE COVERAGE FUNDING FOR REGIONAL VICTORIA

Optus has announced that it will build 11 new mobile sites across Victoria after securing funding to address some of the state’s mobile coverage black spots.

The 11 Optus sites represent a combined investment of $7.5 million, including $2.7 million in Victorian Government funding and a co-contribution of $4.8 million from Optus.

Sites have been selected in consultation with the Victorian State Government and targeted at areas that have not previously had dedicated mobile coverage.

The 11 sites are expected to deliver calls and data services by the end of 2019.

Vin Mullins, Optus Manager Mobile Access Planning said, “Our work with the Victorian Government will enable even more Victorians to benefit from mobile connectivity. The selected locations will provide residents, businesses and visitors to the area with greatly improved coverage and connectivity.”

Good mobile coverage not only enables people to stay in touch but also supports the economy, community activities and importantly, safety.”

The 11 new sites in the new funding agreement include Dales Creek, Cathedral Lane, Kancoona, Katundra West, Moe-Rawson Road, Neilborough, Warby James, Smeaton, Cowwarr, Erskine Falls and Narracan.

Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford said, “Mobile coverage provides a lifeline for regional communities during an emergency, meaning that people can call for help and stay in touch with loved ones.”

“We’re proud to partner with Optus and give more Victorians the mobile coverage they deserve.”

Over the past 12 months, Optus has invested significantly in regional Victoria, building 62 new sites. Optus is working with the Victorian Government’s direct Mobile Black Spot Program to deliver 25 new mobile sites in the state, two of which are now live at Maryknoll and Nanneella.
