Optus has announced that it will add 12 new sites across the Warrnambool and Otway Ranges over the next 12 months to improve 4G mobile coverage for residents and businesses across the region.
Optus’ Regional Market Manager for Western Victoria, Duane Dalton said this significant investment was part of Optus’ commitment to support demand for connectivity across regional Australia.
“We plan to add a further 12 sites in the region within the next 12 months which means that the people who live, work and visit the region will benefit from improved indoor and outdoor coverage, faster upload and download speeds and reduced call drop outs.”
“In the past 12 months Optus has invested $4.45 million to build and activate seven new sites at locations including Tyrendarra, Warncoort, Port Fairy Central, Chocolyn South, Colac West, Beech Forest and 12 Apostles. We know that consumers are reliant on mobile connectivity more than ever and we are dedicated to delivering improved and faster data speeds,” Mr Dalton said.
The new sites to be rolled out in the region include: Lavers Hill, North East Warrnambool, Pirron Yallock, Kennett River, Woodford, Warrnambool Breakwater, Wye River and Warrnambool North with four of the 12 sites, Port Campbell North, Woolsthorpe, Hawkesdale and Winslow to be co-funded as part of the Victorian Government’s Regional Connectivity Program.
‘We are committed to investing in regional Australia and network investment in Warrnambool and Otway Ranges is testament of this commitment,” said Mr Dalton.
The Optus network handles over 45 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 6,000 terabytes of data each week. Optus is continuing to expand and strengthen its network to deliver improved data and voice services across metropolitan, regional and remote locations nationally.
