EYRE PENINSULA TO BENEFIT FROM TWO NEW 4G MOBILE TOWERS

Optus today announced it will continue to improve 4G mobile coverage across the Eyre Peninsula, with the completion of two new 4G mobile sites.

Optus’ Regional Market Manager for South Australia, Steve Fairfield said, “Optus remains committed to providing fast and effective mobile and internet coverage for customers across the Eyre Peninsula.

“In the past 12 months, we have built new sites at Port Lincoln South and Mt Damper,” said Mr Fairfield.

“These new sites will provide improved coverage and capacity for locals and visitors to Port Lincoln area as well as motorists travelling  between Port Kenny and Wudinna on Highway 1.

“The new site at Port Lincoln South was built in time for Port Lincoln’s popular Tunarama festival in January 2018 in which thousands of people attended and the new site at Mt Damper also provided much needed 4G and capacity enhancements at existing sites at Port Kenny and Elliston for the holiday period.”

The recent investment of $1.2 million has improved indoor and outdoor mobile coverage, and download speeds for customers in the region.

Federal Member for Grey, Rowan Ramsey, welcomed Optus’ investment in the mobile network.

“I congratulate Optus on its investment in mobile and internet services across Eyre Peninsula,” Mr Ramsey said.

“It is great to see improved and expanded telecommunications with competitive pricing in regional Australia and I look forward to working with Optus and other telco’s to improve local mobile coverage.”

In addition to these two new sites, a third mobile tower in Port Lincoln Central is in its final building stages and is expected to go live in March, providing additional coverage for the region as well as improved in-building coverage.

“We’re really pleased to be able to offer customers in the Eyre Peninsula region more choice in mobile carriers, greater network coverage and faster mobile internet download services,” Mr Fairfield said.

The Optus network handles over 45 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 6,000 terabytes of data each week. Optus is continuing to expand and strengthen its network to deliver improved data and voice services across metropolitan, regional and remote locations nationally.
