Optus has announced a 10 year partnership with the Government of Western Australia to secure the naming rights for the new Perth Stadium, to be known as Optus Stadium.
The partnership reflects a broader commitment from Optus in Western Australia, with confirmation a three year $275 million program of work to expand and improve network coverage across the state is almost complete
Optus Managing Director of Product and Marketing, Ben White, said a combination of the new stadium sponsorship and network investment outlay reflected Optus’ focus on delivering for customers in the West.
“We are continuing to evolve from a traditional telco provider to a mobile-led entertainment company and what better way to illustrate that with a combination of mobile network expansion, coupled with game-changing entertainment experiences for events at the new Optus Stadium,” Mr White said.
“Visitors and spectators to Optus Stadium will have access to the latest technology, including the release of a new mobile App, which will provide a truly enhanced game-day experience and deliver the world’s best fan engagement experiences through a smart phone or tablet.”
The Optus Stadium App will be the first of its kind in Australia and will make it easier for fans to plan and attend events. The App will have built in functionality to enhance fan’s stadium experiences, showing users the most efficient way to enter and exit plus other unique functionality.
“Australians are passionate about entertainment and sport and we are excited to partner with the Government of Western Australia to deliver a truly game-changing experience at the world class Optus Stadium.
“The Optus 4G Plus mobile network connects more than nine million Australians and will power experiences in and around the stadium, showcasing the strength and speed of our network.
“There are some exciting entertainment and sporting events on the 2018 calendar and we are looking forward to helping fans create and share memorable moments with friends and family.”
Mobile network investment windfall for WA
Mr White also announced Optus will continue to build new sites to further improve 4G and 3G mobile network coverage and services across the state.
“Optus started a $275 million state-wide program of work two and half years ago to build more than 90 new sites and upgrade 233 sites to improve mobile coverage and experience as customers shift from traditional voice calls to data and entertainment streaming services.”
“Work will be completed by July next year and will ensure people in Perth and regional Western Australia can stay connected when at home, at work, or travelling,” Mr White said.
