OPTUS COMMITS $7 MILLION TO IMPROVE MOBILE COVERAGE IN BUNBURY, MARGARET RIVER AND BUSSELTON

29 June 2017

Optus is continuing to expand its 4G Plus network and today announced a $7 million commitment to improve mobile coverage in and around Busselton, Margaret River and Bunbury.

Optus’ State Manager for Western Australia, Jonathan Conway said, “Optus will build a number of new sites to improve network coverage and customer experience for residents, businesses and the two million plus yearly visitors1 to the region.”

Investment in Bunbury and surrounds

In the next two years Optus will build four new sites at Davenport, Preston Beach, Gelorup and Dardanup.

Optus recently completed a new site to service central Bunbury.

Investment in Margaret River/Busselton and surrounds

In the next two years Optus will build 10 sites to improve coverage at Anniebrook, Burnside, Busselton CBD, Cowaramup West, Dunsborough CBD, Gracetown, Redgate, Margaret River South, Margaret River West and Yalyalup.

“Optus is committed to improving mobile coverage and providing faster internet download speeds for people living, working, and visiting the South West region including Bunbury, Margaret River and Busselton.”

“We’ve listened to feedback from our customers and businesses who all echo the same message that they want better coverage and faster download speeds especially along the Bussell Highway.

“Once work is completed, customers will benefit from fewer call drop outs, better indoor and outdoor coverage and smoother steaming to mobile devices,” Mr Conway said.

Today’s announcement forms part of a $1.5 billion commitment by Optus to expand and strengthen its network in regional and metropolitan areas this year.

In the past eight years Optus has invested $6 billion to build and maintain its mobile network.

The Optus network handles over 45 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 6,000 terabytes of data each week. The growing demand for mobile coverage is why Optus is continuously investing to improve mobile coverage across Australia.
