Optus today announced completion of the first stage of $2.5 million in work to improve 3G and 4G mobile coverage across Wangaratta.
Optus State Manager Peter Kirk said the investment will improve network coverage and customer experience across the region for residents and small business operators.
“We understand the need to consistently improve mobile coverage and provide faster mobile internet download services for people living, working and visiting Wangaratta,” Mr Kirk said.
“We have invested $1 million to build two new sites – one at Wangaratta South, which has recently been switched on, and one in the Wangaratta CBD which will be completed in the next couple of months.
“Planning has started for a $1.5 million investment to build three new towers for Barr Reserve, Wangandary Central and Bowser which will add capacity and improve coverage along the Hume Highway and along the North East railway line.
“Once work is completed, residents will enjoy increased coverage when attending events at the Showgrounds, Barr Reserve Sporting Fields and on the Wangaratta Golf Course.
“Optus’ network investment in the area is a win for local residents, and businesses wanting to stay connected across the region,” Mr Kirk said.
Wangaratta is one of hundreds of regional areas enjoying the benefits of Optus’ superfast 4G Plus network, which now reaches 95.7% of Australians.
The Optus network handles over 50 million calls, 65 million SMS messages and carries 600 terabytes of data every day. This growing demand for mobile services is why Optus is continuously raising the bar when it comes to improving mobile coverage in regional Australia.
