Optus today revealed plans to spend an additional $4 million to further improve mobile phone coverage across the Central West region in Orange, Bathurst and along the Mitchell Highway over the next 12 months.
Allen Lew, Optus’ Chief Executive Officer said this investment will increase Optus’ 4G coverage and performance in the Central West, making it possible for more customers to have the reliable mobile coverage they need.
This follows the $1.7 million investment Optus has made over the past 12 months, to upgrade 16 mobile site to 4G at locations, including Mt Canobolas, Blayney, Orange CBD, Burnt Yards, Orange West, Manildra, Molong, Cargo, Cumnock, Mt Panorama and Hill End.
These network enhancements have expanded 4G data coverage, increased download speeds and improved mobile voice quality for the Central West.

“Whether its helping small business stay connected, or supporting local tourism attractions such as the Orange Wine Festival or the Bathurst 1000, Optus recognises the importance of reliable mobile coverage to the local economy.”
The Optus network handles over 50 million calls and 65 million SMS messages every day. This growing demand for mobile services is why Optus is continuously raising the bar when it comes to improving mobile coverage in regional Australia.
Next week, Optus will turn on a new tower at Woodward Street, Orange, improving mobile coverage to the western residential area of Orange.
In addition to the site at Woodward Street, Optus is planning to build a number of new towers over the next 12 months in Calare, Warrandine, Orange East and along The Escort Way. New sites are also planned for Bathurst, including in the central business district, the western commercial district, Kelso, and along O’Connell Road. Additional coverage will also be rolled out along Lachlan Valley Way, Mid Western and Olympic Highways.
