OPTUS WHOLESALE DRIVES NETWORK INNOVATION WITH OPTUS CLOUD-N

31 May 2016

Software Defined Networking white label solution delivers flexibility.

Optus Wholesale has announced the introduction of Software Defined Networking (SDN) called Optus Cloud-N. Optus has built its Optus Cloud-N SDN from the ground up as a Wholesale white label solution enabling customers to ‘skin’ the service - meaning they can control and design highly secure and reliable private Optus Cloud-N Services as their own. John Castro, Optus Wholesale Head of Marketing and Strategy said, “Optus Cloud-N is a white label solution and allows partners to rebrand the SDN service as their own and resell it using their retail rates. The portal can be accessed from any device via the Internet.” “The service combines our 100Gbps network capability together with the investments Optus has made in Data Centre infrastructure and is in response to customers asking for pay-as-you-go services.” Optus Cloud-N provides flexibility through different grades of service in hourly increments to suit customer requirements, such as the ability to ramp up services during peak periods and then scale them back during off-peak periods. “This flexibility and security is all about supporting Private, Public and Hybrid Cloud service connectivity and enablement,  delivering improved economics because customers are only using what they need, when they need it,” said Mr Castro. Drive for Network Innovation Mr Castro said Optus’ Wholesale partners were seeking highly secure, cost-effective network solutions and the ability to flexibly respond to end-user demand in real time. “For businesses to leverage various cloud based services and user demands,  they need secure, flexible on demand network connectivity for mission critical and non-mission critical applications.” “Optus Cloud-N uses SDN architecture which provides service agility to launch and turn down services more rapidly and efficiently than supported on traditional networks. Optus Cloud-N users can now turn the service up and down as required.” In addition Optus Cloud-N allows the traffic grade mix to change throughout the day. For example, users can order more real-time bandwidth during peak business periods, and then change the mix in off-peak periods to support less latency sensitive traffic (for example, back-ups). This is all done using a self-serve white label portal. Optus Wholesale now offers Optus Cloud-N at Equinix data centres in Sydney and Melbourne and plans to extend this to other major data centres later this year.
