Make sure you’re internet-ready before signing on the dotted line.
New research from Optus reveals that while almost 60% of Australians admit they wouldn’t move into a property that can’t be connected to the internet, only one in four (27%) house-hunters actually investigate the broadband connectivity of a home before moving in.
Almost 76% of Australians see an internet connection as a key consideration when moving home and 39% want the internet working on the day they move in. In fact, broadband speed (27%) now ranks just below proximity to work (64%), public transport options (44%) and good local schools (28%) when it comes to choosing a new property.
However, despite its importance, 5.5 million Australians admit they don’t know what questions they need to ask to ensure their new home is internet-ready when they move in.
Ben White, Vice President, Fixed Marketing at Optus said, “We know Australian homes rely on the internet for sending emails, shopping, streaming entertainment content, and social media. Without access, these simple tasks can be difficult to complete as quickly and efficiently as we’d like. So it’s essential that house-hunters think about their internet needs before settling on a new home, so they don’t find themselves at a loss after moving in.”
Christopher Mourd, Head of Real Estate for LJ Hooker said, “Public transport and good schools will always be top of mind for people on the hunt for a new home, but broadband is emerging as the new must have. An internet connection – particularly an NBN-ready home – can make a property more appealing to house hunters.”
With the internet firmly embedded in our everyday work and play, staying connected is more important than ever. In fact, two million Australians would rather stay at work to use the internet, than face going home to a property without an internet connection.
“Optus recognises that moving house is a massive feat so we’re trying to make it easier for our customers. Simply hop online, submit a relocation request and we’ll manage the rest. The best part of doing it online is that we’ll waive any relocation fees,” Mr White added.
