Optus team members will ride in to Melbourne’s Albert Park this afternoon at approximately 4.30pm, bringing to an end another successful year riding as part of the Tour de Cure.
This year, the Optus team of 30 full route and guest riders set out on a nine day, 1,194km journey from Adelaide Oval, along the Great Ocean Road before finishing up today in Melbourne. Along the way the Tour visited various local communities including Robe, Mt Gambier, Warrnambool and Apollo Bay, spreading awareness of cancer prevention and raising money for cancer research.
Murray King, Optus Chief Financial Officer, said, “It’s been another amazing tour and an experience the whole Optus team will never forget. We had the chance to speak to so many incredible people along the ride about cancer prevention and raised well above our team goal of $125,000 in donations, all to be put towards the cancer research.”
“This is a huge accomplishment for everyone on the tour and we are so grateful to have been able to join the 180 riders, crew and volunteers for this incredible opportunity. Cancer research and prevention is such an important cause that not only the Optus Tour de Cure team, but the whole Optus organisation is proud to support,” said Mr King.
The Tour de Cure is a not-for-profit cycling organisation, dedicated to raising funds for the fight against cancer. This year’s Signature Tour saw riders set off from Adelaide and cycle over nine days to Melbourne. Since 2007 Tour de Cure has raised more than $16 million dollars and has funded 180 research, support and prevention projects for men, women and children.
