On Friday 24 April, the Optus Tour de Cure team will celebrate the launch of the 2015 Tour de Cure by presenting $150,000 to support cancer research.
More than just a bike ride, the Tour de Cure is an event that raises funds for cancer research and increases cancer prevention awareness, with the ultimate aim of eliminating this awful disease.
This year, the Optus team of 30 full route and guest riders will set out on the nine day, 1,194km journey from Adelaide Oval, along the Great Ocean Road before finishing up at Melbourne’s Albert Park. Along the way the Tour will visit local communities spreading awareness of cancer support and prevention.
Murray King, Optus Chief Financial Officer, said, “Optus has been a proud sponsor of the Tour de Cure for years and we are excited to continue supporting this great organisation. Since 2009 Optus has raised more than $1.5 million towards cancer research. Cancer has touched the lives of many of our Optus colleagues and we are committed to help raise funds to spread awareness and show support to everyone that has been affected.”
“Every year on the tour I see more drive, more commitment and more money raised for the cause. The Tour is a great opportunity for us to spread the message of prevention to the communities we visit along our ride and encourage everyone we meet to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. We couldn’t be more excited to get riding and raise awareness of the work the Tour de Cure does to find a cure for cancer,” said Mr King.
The Tour de Cure is a not-for-profit cycling organisation, dedicated to raising funds for the fight against cancer. This year’s Signature Tour will take riders from Adelaide to Melbourne via one of Australia’s most iconic backdrops, the Great Ocean Road.
