OPTUS SAYS YES TO FAMILY SHARING

7 April 2015

More data for less, shared with the whole household.

Optus is breaking the rules with the launch of Family Sharing. For the first time, Optus is offering unlimited standard national talk and text across all of its postpaid mobile plans plus amazing data allocations to share with the whole family.

Share with the whole family

Now, everyone in the house can share all of their data:

  • Combine plans: Pool separate mobile plans together on one bill and share the data
  • Huge data: serious amounts of data, up to 10GB for $100 per plan per month
  • Unlimited standard national talk and text: have a chat to all your mates
  • International minutes and texts: keep in touch with friends and family overseas in 32 countries
  • New phone or BYO: get a new phone on a 24 month contract or BYO month-to-month
  • Tools to track the family’s usage: Keep tabs on usage via My Account or the My Optus app

Vicki Brady, Managing Director, Marketing and Product, said, “We believe there are around one million households who would want to sign up for Family Sharing. All families have different data needs, with some people in the house using more than others. Now customers can combine all the mobile plans in their home on the same bill and make the most of their data.

“Currently around 68% of our My Plan customers are using less than 50% of their monthly data inclusions. We know that 18-20 year olds use 2.7 times more data than those over 45 years old. With our new Family Sharing offer, these customers can pool their data so that heavy and light data users can maximise their mobile plans and consolidate their bills,” said Ms Brady.

Making your money work harder

From today, customers who sign up for new postpaid mobile plans can combine all their household’s mobile phone plans on one bill and pool all the data inclusions together, and they get unlimited standard national talk and text, unlimited standard international text. Existing customers can move to the new plans and experience the benefits of Family Sharing too.

“Optus’ new plans with Family Sharing continue our mission to provide the best possible offers for our customers. We were the first to launch plans that eradicated hefty excess fees two years ago and then we introduced affordable data sharing last year. Now, we’re evolving again with Family Sharing to give customers even more of what they love – more data, unlimited standard national calls and the ability to mix and match all of our plans,” said Ms Brady.

Do I need a math degree to figure it out?

You can mix and match any new Optus postpaid mobile plan. There are no ongoing costs to share your data and you can combine as many new My Plan Plus or SIM-only plans as you like. Plus, each family member can connect up to five extra mobile broadband devices, like SIM-ready tablets, to take advantage of the shared data – there’s just a one-off $5 fee per device.

Your one stop shop

Now you can get your Family Sharing, entertainment and superfast speeds all in one place. Customers who sign up to an eligible plan before 5 July will get a six month Netflix subscription and can use their increased data allocations to watch their favourite shows. Plus, customers covered by Optus’ 4G Plus network will have a faster internet experience and smoother streaming, in more places.

All of this comes with protection from huge excess data charges, with automatic top-ups for only $10 per extra 1GB. Customers can easily track the family’s usage via My Account or the My Optus app. Plus they will continue to get SMS usage alerts to help stay in control of their spend.
