OPTUS AND QANTAS FREQUENT FLYER PARTNERSHIP UPDATE

28 April 2015

Optus and Qantas Frequent Flyer have today announced they will not renew their partnership when it expires on 30 June 2015.

The two companies are using the end of the agreement to enhance their loyalty offering in different ways based on what their respective customers most value.

Over the past three and a half years Optus has offered its consumer and small and medium business customers the opportunity to earn Qantas Points when paying bills. Optus customers will continue earning Qantas Points for payments made until 30 June 2015.

Vicki Brady, Managing Director, Marketing and Product, Optus, said: “We’ve had a successful relationship with Qantas Frequent Flyer over the past few years.

“As we evolve our customer loyalty program, we’ve made a decision to change some aspects of our current offering. We know that our customers value different things, so we’re working on the best way to bring our rewards to life in a way that makes sense for them.

“We thank our customers for their loyalty and will continue the Optus Movie Rewards program,” said Ms Brady.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Lesley Grant said the key to a strong loyalty program is to continue evolving and she is aware Qantas Frequent Flyers have valued the opportunity to earn Qantas Points with a telco.

“Qantas Frequent Flyer has a proven track record of regularly adding new partners to the program giving our members ever increasing earning and redemption opportunities and the coming months will be no exception.

“We currently offer over 2500 opportunities to earn points for activities other than flying, including when dining at restaurants, playing golf, using a credit card and shopping online.

“While we have an extremely low turnover rate of partners, it’s to be expected that from time to time there will be partners that move in and out of the program.”

Ms Grant added, “Qantas has enjoyed a great working relationship with Optus over the past three and a half years and we wish them all the best.”

Qantas Points earned with Optus will continue to be available for redemption under the Qantas Frequent Flyer program terms and conditions.
