OPTUS SWITCHES ON MOBILE COVERAGE IN TUNNELS FROM REDFERN TO BONDI JUNCTION
From this morning, Sydney rail commuters are able to make calls, send SMS, update social networks and browse the internet all the way from Redfern to Bondi Junction.
Optus, in partnership with the New South Wales Government and RailCorp, has led the switch on of 4G, 3G and 2G network coverage along the Eastern Suburbs/T4 line underground tunnels overnight, ready for commuters to now enjoy.
“Optus customers can now have a more entertaining and productive daily commute, with continuous coverage along the Eastern Suburbs train line – catching up on emails or phone calls, watching their favourite TV shows and streaming music to their hearts content,” Vic McClelland, Managing Director of Optus Networks, said.
Today’s announcement follows the completion of the Optus-led train tunnel coverage projects that have provided continuous mobile coverage for train commuters since 2012 on the CBD North, Western line, and the North Sydney and Chatswood tunnels, as well as the City Circle tunnels since April, 2013.
“It’s been a complex project, ensuring continuous coverage along Sydney’s train lines and tunnels, but we know how important it is for our customers to be connected anywhere, on any device, and in particular, get the most out of their time spent commuting,” Mr McClelland said.
