OPTUS ROCKCORPS CONCERT ROCKS OUT AT THE PRINCE BANDROOM

New York indie rock sensation, American Authors, reward Melbourne volunteers

Melbourne volunteers who contributed over 1200 hours to local communities in the past two and a half weeks, celebrated with a live money-can’t-buy exclusive gig with New York indie rock band American Authors at the Prince Bandroom last night, thanks to Optus RockCorps.

The exclusive gig was the reward for young volunteers who donated four hours of their time to an Optus RockCorps community initiative. You can’t buy a ticket, you can’t win a ticket, you have to earn a ticket to the show.

American Authors band member Zac Bernett said, “Congratulations to all the Melbourne volunteers for their hard work in transforming communities around Melbourne.  The vibe at the Optus RockCorps gig was awesome and the whole band is really proud to be involved.”

What is Optus RockCorps?

Optus RockCorps is a global youth movement that rewards volunteers who give up four hours of time with a ticket to see an exclusive, live concert with some of the world’s biggest musical acts.

Last night’s gig was the first time Optus RockCorps has visited Melbourne, and on Monday the first ever Brisbane gig also took place at The Tivoli.

The Australian program kicked off for the second time in Sydney earlier this year with volunteers donating their time to see Aussie sweetheart and pop icon Samantha Jade, alternative electro pioneers, Empire of the Sun, chart topping English electronic music quartet, Rudimental and R&B artist, Miguel perform at Luna Park in Sydney.

Since Optus RockCorps launched in February 2013, over 36,000 volunteer hours have been donated across 120 volunteer projects nationally.
