Optus today announced the appointment of experienced telecommunications executive Vic McClelland as Managing Director of Optus Networks.
Mr McClelland, who will be responsible for strategic investment in mobile infrastructure and the day-to-day running of fixed, mobile and satellite networks, will report to CEO, Consumer Australia, Optus, Kevin Russell.
Mr McClelland was most recently Vice President of Technology Strategy for Internet Services with Ericsson in Silicon Valley, in the United States. Previous roles include Head of Technology Strategy and Planning for Vodafone Hutchison Australia and Chief Technical Officer for Hutchison Telecommunications, Australia.
Kevin Russell, CEO, Consumer Australia, Optus said that Vic’s extensive local and international experience make him an outstanding addition to the team. “His track record as a pioneer in the roll-out of Australia’s first 3G network and recent work in Silicon Valley, where he has been at the forefront of technology innovation in network development and device ecosytems speaks for itself,” Mr Russell said.
“With a passion for technology, customers and people, Vic will build on the leadership and momentum Optus has achieved through recent network upgrades and expansions. There is however still much to be done to ensure all our customers get the best possible network experience each and every day,” Mr Russell said.

Vic McClelland will join Optus on 4 November 2013.
