OPTUS AWARDED SATELLITE PROVIDER OF THE YEAR

Optus Satellite takes honors at the 2013 Communications Alliance and Communications Day ACOMM Awards

At last night’s ACOMM Awards, jointly presented by the Communications Alliance and Communications Day, Optus took out the gong for Satellite Provider of the Year for the company’s commitment to providing satellite products and services in remote areas of the country, including:

• First Release Satellite Service (FRSS), a wholesale broadband access service for the National Broadband Network (NBN Co),
• Optus SatZone, which delivers 3G mobile connectivity to remote locations, and;
• Aurora Digital, Optus’ state of the art satellite broadcast distribution platform that delivers satellite broadcast television and radio services to regional and remote Australia.

The First Release Satellite Service has made high-speed broadband access available, specifically making a positive difference by serving those in even the most remote areas of Australia.

Optus SatZone is a transportable mobile base station that provides network connection in an immediate area by utilising a satellite backhaul. Workers and residents in remote areas can use their compatible 3G mobile phones, tablets or modems to stay in touch with the office or to contact their family and friends.

The Aurora Digital system, designed for direct to home broadcasting, provides cost effective accessibility through small satellite dishes to Optus customers and their viewers in remote areas of the country. Current services encompass 16 high definition and 76 standard definition TV channels, together with 74 radio channels.

The seventh Annual ACOMM Awards was a sold out event that acknowledged excellence among communications industry participants, including service providers, content providers, carriers and technology partners.
