QUEENSLAND FLOODS - OPTUS NETWORK UPDATE

27 January 2013

An Optus spokesperson said:

As of 3pm today (QLD time) there has been limited impact to the Optus mobile network in the flood affected areas of Queensland. However, as the flood and weather situation is changing rapidly, some mobile sites are at risk due to power outages.

Where possible, we have deployed backup generators in some locations throughout the flood affected areas to allow us to respond to power outages.

Optus engineers continue to closely monitor the network during this period of excessive flooding in Queensland to minimise any impact on our customers.

Gladstone area

In Gladstone, there has been minimal impact to Optus mobile infrastructure with 3G and 2G voice and data and fixed line services including broadband all still available to customers.

Optus engineers are in the area and are monitoring the situation closely with generators available if needed.

Bundaberg and Hervey Bay

In Bundaberg, Maryborough and Hervey Bay, there has been minimal impact to Optus mobile infrastructure with 3G and 2G voice and data and fixed line services including broadband all still available to customers.

Due to a power outage at Mt Corella there is currently disruption to mobile services at Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach.

Sunshine Coast and Gympie

On the Sunshine Coast, there has been minimal impact to Optus mobile infrastructure with 3G and 2G voice and data and fixed line services including broadband all still available to customers.

We currently have some impact to mobile services in the Gympie, Dalby and Pomona due to power outages – Optus engineers are currently investigating the option of deploying generators to return some services.

Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Toowoomba

In Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Toowoomba, there has currently been no impact to Optus mobile infrastructure with 3G and 2G voice and data and fixed line services including broadband all still available to customers.

Optus engineers are in the area and are monitoring the situation closely with generators available if needed.

We continue to monitor the situation closely. Should customers need to contact emergency services in the event of an Optus mobile service disruption, we encourage customers to call 000 from their mobile to be switched to the nearest available mobile network.
