NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR TO LEAD OPTUS NETWORKS

Optus announced today the appointment of Günther Ottendorfer as Managing Director of Optus Networks.

Mr Ottendorfer is a telecommunications executive with over twenty years international experience in a number of Europe’s premier telecommunications companies, including Deutsche Telekom and max.mobil.

Paul O’Sullivan, Optus Chief Executive said, “We welcome Günther to Australia’s challenger telecommunication company – it is great to have a passionate customer centric leader join the organisation in such a pivotal role.

“As head of Optus Networks Günther joins our management team and is responsible for the day-to-day running of all Optus networks as well as further strategic investment in our IP, fixed and mobile network in the lead up to the launch of the National Broadband Network.

“Optus’ objective to lead customer experience begins with a Network that delights our customers as well as one that provides innovation and quality.

“Günther brings a wealth of technical and commercial knowledge as well as experience implementing convergent future technologies, across IP, mobile and fixed networks,” he said.

Prior to Optus, Günther was European Mobile Technical Director at T-Mobile (Deutsche Telekom) overseeing the company’s mobile networks across continental Europe – managing multiple territories and the expansion of the operations including the planned roll out of Long Term Evolution (LTE) or 4G for 100 million customers.

He has also been influential in the business community within the Chamber of Commerce of Austria as Chairman for Austrian Telecommunications and Broadcasting companies and as a board member for the Next Generation Mobile Organisation.

Mr Ottendorfer’s appointment is effective immediately.

Mr Soo Meng Tay the previous Managing Director of Optus Network has returned to SingTel as the Executive Vice President of SingTel Networks.
