OPTUS IMPROVES NETWORK COVERAGE IN PEMBERTON

Optus today announced a further enhancement to its network coverage in Western Australia with the installation of a new mobile facility at Pemberton in the South West region of WA.

The facility will provide Optus GSM network coverage to the township of Pemberton and surrounds. The expansion of coverage facilities provides local residents with a real alternative to other carriers and allows current Optus Mobile customers to use their mobile phones in more places in Western Australia.

Warren Hardy, Acting Managing Director Optus Consumer said, "The new site is part of Optus' commitment to provide quality coverage to regional areas in Western Australia. The population of WA will enjoy an expansion in network coverage as Optus continues to deliver on our contract with the WA Government to build 80 new sites across the state.

"The south west coast of Australia is growing in popularity making Optus' service a huge benefit to both local residents and tourists wanting mobile communication. The increase in coverage facilities will not only help residents and rural businesses communicate more effectively, but will make it easier for travellers to make mobile phone calls while on the road," he said.

Richard Thorning, Optus State Manager for WA said, "With the new mobile facility at Pemberton, Optus customers in Western Australia will see a dramatic improvement in network coverage."

Optus has invested more than $109 million to roll out 312 mobile base stations across Western Australia, providing network coverage to 91 percent of the state's population.
