Optus today announced a further enhancement to its network coverage in Queensland with the installation of new mobile facilities in Bundaberg and Agnes Water, on the Coral Coast. The facilities will provide GSM network coverage to Optus Mobile customers. In particular, the new sites will enhance the depth of network coverage within the Bundaberg town centre and provide coverage to the township of Agnes Water and the surrounding area. Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile said, “In the last 12 months we have invested more than $16 million in upgrading our network coverage in Queensland and now provide coverage to 96 percent of people across the state. “The new facilities at Bundaberg and Agnes Water, with plans to extend coverage to the town of Seventeen Seventy, are part of Optus’ commitment to bring true competition in mobile telecommunication services to regional Queensland,” he said. Daniel Baldry, Network Communications, Bundaberg said, “With new mobile facilities in Bundaberg and Agnes Water, and the recent site in Rosedale, residents and businesses on the Coral Coast now have a real choice in mobile networks and providers.” Optus has invested more than $247 million to roll out 706 mobile base stations across Queensland providing network coverage to 96 percent of the state’s population. The coverage expansion is part of the Optus strategy to provide the largest GSM network on the east coast of Australia.
