OPTUS SATELLITE CONTINUES TO SHINE

Optus announced today it was celebrating the tenth anniversary of its B3 Satellite and MobileSat service as well as the birth of its Optus Broadband Satellite solution.

• Optus B3 Satellite was successfully launched into orbit on 27 August 1994;
• Optus MobileSat was the world's first land mobile satellite system, and was launched on 31 August 1994; and
• Optus Broadband Satellite is the new Federal Government Higher Bandwidth Incentive Scheme (HiBIS) registered satellite broadband solution and was launched on 17 August 2004.

Optus has more than 20-years experience in satellite services, which confirms Optus' leading position in Australia.

Optus' current fleet of satellite consists of A3, B1, B3 and C1. Optus has also announced its intentions to build and launch two new satellites, D1 and D2, over the next few years.

Managing Director of Optus Wholesale & Satellite, Mr Warren Hardy, said satellite services were fast becoming viable alternatives to terrestrial infrastructure offered by the incumbent, particularly in rural and regional areas of Australia.
