OPTUS REVS UP FOR BATHURST
10 October 2003, 09:00 AM
Optus has tripled base station capacity on Mount Panorama to meet expected demand for mobile services over the three-day Bathurst 1000 race weekend.
Bathurst Network Communications store owner, Gary McLaughlin said, Optus had geared up for the race.
"Last year voice traffic increased by 438 per cent over the three days with more than 250,000 voice calls made and more than 160,000 text messages sent.
"The event grows each year and Optus is prepared for even greater demand from V8 fans with its enhanced coverage," Mr McLaughlin said.
As part of the Bathurst 1000, Optus mobile customers attending the event will see on their phones a display of various cell broadcasts including 'V8s rock Mtn' and 'V8s shake'.
"After the race, people living, studying and working in Bathurst will enjoy better mobile coverage on an on-going basis as Optus will maintain some of its enhanced coverage," Mr McLaughlin said.
