Optus is fulfilling its promise of more mobile coverage in South Australia with the recent installation of a base station in Quorn.
From its vantage point on top of the big silos in Quorn, Optus now provides coverage to the township and surrounding area. The coverage also extends along the major routes out of town, in particular Quorn Road heading towards Port Augusta.
Optus' South Australian State Manager, Harvey Marcus, said Optus is 'raising the bar' and is working towards improving mobile coverage in rural and regional South Australia.
"As an historical railway town, Quorn is important in the region for transport and tourism.
"Improving mobile coverage and providing consumers with a choice of mobile carrier in this area was a high priority for Optus," Mr Marcus said.
Optus will have a mobile site in Hawker by the end of September.
This year Optus has also built sites in Jamestown, Peterborough, Gladstone, Meningie, Lucindale, Lameroo, Pinnaroo, Karoonda, Kangaroo Island and Burra. Further investments are planned for Swan Reach, Ceduna, Coober Pedy, Roxby Downs and Woomera.
"Optus' mobile network covers 95 per cent of South Australia's population and more than 30 per cent of its land mass, Mr Marcus said.
