Optus is fulfilling its promise of more mobile coverage in South Australia with the recent installation of a base station in Hawker.
Mobile coverage extends to the Hawker township and surrounding area, including the major roads heading out of town.
Optus' South Australian State Manager, Harvey Marcus, said Optus is 'raising the bar' and is working towards improving mobile coverage in rural and regional South Australia.
"Located at the junction of roads from Port August, Marree, Orroroo and Wilpena Pound, Hawker is an important tourist hub for the Flinders Ranges.
"Given the area is a popular tourist destination, Optus recommends people travelling through Hawker use a car kit to maximise mobile coverage when in the car.
This year Optus has also built sites in Quorn, Jamestown, Peterborough, Gladstone, Meningie, Lucindale, Karoonda, Kangaroo Island, Lameroo, Pinnaroo and Burra. Further investments are planned for Swan Reach, Ceduna, Coober Pedy, Roxby Downs and Woomera.
"Improving mobile coverage and providing consumers with a choice of mobile carrier in this area was a high priority for Optus.
"Optus' mobile network covers 95 per cent of South Australia's population and more than 30 per cent of its land mass," Mr Marcus said.
