Residents and visitors to the Blue Mountains and surrounding areas will enjoy improved mobile coverage as a result of the expansion of Optus' mobile network.
Local Optus representative, Phones 'n Furniture store owner Derek Conibear, said Optus is 'raising the bar' and is working towards improving mobile coverage in regional New South Wales.
"The network expansion includes new mobile base stations at Linden, Blaxland and Hazelbrook and will also benefit travellers along the Great Western Highway," he said.
"Optus is tackling the obstacles in providing mobile coverage to the area - the Blue Mountains is unique because of the mountainous landscape and the heavy eucalyptus that block and reduce mobile phone signals.
"Recently the Blue Mountains City Council moved its mobile business to Optus largely as a result of their commitment to improving coverage. Further Optus network expansions planned for this year include Bilpin, Medlow Bath, Wentworth Falls and Blackheath Plateau," Mr Conibear said.
Optus has invested more than $2.32 billion in its national mobile network. The network is made up of over 3,500 mobile base station, providing coverage to over 94 per cent of the Australian population.
In New South Wales there are more than 1,300 mobile base stations with over 300 sites covering the state's regional areas and Optus will invest more than $60 million this year into its network.
