Optus today confirmed its commitment to build an additional 19 rural and regional base station sites and four metropolitan sites in Queensland over the next 18 months.
The 23 planned sites demonstrated Optus' commitment to building base stations that serve - principally - rural and regional centres.
"Increased Optus mobile coverage will be a vast improvement to mobile users travelling and working throughout Queensland.
"The coverage enhancement will enable the people of Queensland, particularly those living outside the city, to have greater access to a superior network with all of the other Optus network advantages such as data, information, entertainment services and customer care.
"Optus' increased presence in Queensland helps stimulate competition in the market, leading to greater choice, better prices and access to services," said Mr Allen Lew, Managing Director, Optus Mobile.
Of the sites planned this year, nine are in South East Queensland, four are in the Wide Bay Burnett area, three are in North Queensland, six are in Central Queensland and one is in the Darling Downs.
Optus defines rural sites as those sites that sit outside major population centres. Regional sites are country centres.
