OPTUS PROVIDES V8 POWER COVERAGE FOR CANBERRA 400

Optus is charging up its CoWs to provide better mobile coverage for the Stegbar Canberra 400 Round 5 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series in June.

Optus will provide a mobile base station or a Cell on Wheels (CoW) to deliver additional mobile coverage for the racing event.

Canberra Optus World store owner Richard Friedrichs, said Optus is committed to improving the reach and quality of its mobile service in Canberra.

"Optus has previously provided a CoW for SummerNats, Elections and other major events held at Exhibition Park as well as last years Canberra 400" he said.

"Plus, Optus has recently installed a new permanent base station in Lyneham. This will remove the need for temporary base stations in Exhibition Park and also improve coverage along the Federal Highway," Mr Fredrichs said.

As part of the Stegbar Canberra 400 action, Optus mobile customers attending the event will see cell broadcast displays on their mobile phones such as 'V8's Shake', 'V8 Action' and 'FordvHolden'.

In addition, Holden and Ford mobile phone covers and other mobile products and services will be available from a Canberra centre Optus World booth at the event.

Optus has been concentrating on improving mobile coverage in Canberra and has built seven new base stations since January 2002 in areas including Lyneham, Holt, Larmer, Gowrie, Banks, Forrest and Fadden.

With more than 4 million mobile customers, a third of the nation's mobile subscribers are using the Optus network.
