OPTUS AND NEC TO DELIVER INTEGRATED IP SOLUTIONS

20 November 2000

Cable & Wireless Optus and NEC Australia today unveiled an alliance to jointly develop complete integrated solutions for businesses and government. The alliance was announced at the 6th Annual NEC User Conference which opened in Maroochydore today.

The Cable & Wireless Optus-NEC alliance builds on the Cable & Wireless Optus-Cisco alliance announced last week and the global NEC-Cisco alliance announced in September.

Chris Hancock, Managing Director, Data & Business Services of Cable & Wireless Optus said through the alliance, the companies are paving the way for business and government to embrace the next generation of communication networks and make the promise of IP Telephony and Voice over IP (VoIP) a reality.

"Our alliance is underpinned by a shared vision of leading organisations into the next generation of communications.

"It reflects the commitment of both companies to provide fully integrated e-business solutions. By collaborating at all stages, we can leverage our expertise and deliver truly innovative solutions for enterprises."

The two companies jointly cover the full spectrum of an organisation?s communication needs, including equipment, network, carriage, design, implementation and support services. Customers reap the benefits of well-established networks; superior levels of service and support; competitive pricing; a single point of contact; and outstanding performance.

The alliance formalises the long-standing relationship between the two, demonstrated locally through more than $200 million of existing jointly managed communications services.

"It is a compelling business argument," says David Haynes, Director of Corporate Network Solutions for NEC Australia.

"Working together, Cable & Wireless Optus and NEC are providing robust infrastructures for today, and the best of e-business and convergent technology for tomorrow. That creates a head-on advantage for organisations wishing to embrace business in the new economy," he said.
