ACCC'S INTERCONNECT DECISION WELCOMED

"The ACCC is to be congratulated for arriving at a decision which is clearly in the best interests of the consumer.

Cable & Wireless Optus has always held that Telstra's interconnect charges were too high and out of step with world best practice. All three studies commissioned by the ACCC recommended halving the price of Telstra's interconnect charge.

The decision by the ACCC will ensure more robust competition between telecommunications carriers and long-term cost savings for consumers. Cable & Wireless Optus hopes Telstra will move quickly to ensure the ACCC recommendations are adopted."
