Optus’ prepaid plans offer a lot of great value, including data limits suitable for all kinds of people, international talk minutes to Zone 1 and Zone 2 countries, and data rollover that gives you access to unused data (up to a 200GB limit). But whether you’ve breezed through your prepaid recharge data allocation, you’re looking to chat more to friends overseas, or you want roaming in another country, you may be left wanting more out of your Optus prepaid plan – that's where prepaid add-ons come in.
Prepaid add-ons add additional perks to your plan. Optus offers add-ons that include international roaming, unlimited data for a day, or international talk and text from within Australia. They’re awesome bonus packs that, at an additional cost, give your prepaid plan additional abilities when you need them.
Let’s chat about the add-ons that you can get with an Optus prepaid plan.
What add-ons should I add to my Optus prepaid plan?
Optus’ prepaid plan add-ons are designed to give you additional perks when you need additional data, minutes to call or text people overseas, or to roam in another country.
ormally you should only have add-ons activated on your plan when you need them, but for example, if you’re constantly travelling overseas, you may be interested in the six month international roaming add-on.
Let’s jump into the different kinds of add-ons you can get with an Optus prepaid plan. Keep in mind that you’ll need an active Optus Flex Plus prepaid plan to access any of these add-ons.
International roaming add-ons
Optus offers four international roaming add-ons offering talk, text and data within Zone 1 countries. The plans vary in inclusions and allotted time, ranging from one day to six months.
Data add-ons
Optus offers two data add-ons that could be quite useful if you’re nearing your data limit and you just want to add a little more to your plan. A standard ‘MyData’ add-on gives access to an additional 5GB over five days, but you may be more interested in the ‘Unlimited Data Day’ add-on, which as the name implies, gives you access to unlimited data over 24-hours(1).
International talk and text
If you’ve got friends and family overseas and love chatting to them, but have blown through the international talk and text credit included with your prepaid plan, you may be interested in an add-on that gives you more minutes.
Optus offers an ‘International Talk’ add-on that gives you up to 300 minutes of standard talk to 50 destinations from Australia over 28 days, along with an ‘Extras Credit’ add-on, available on select plans, that can be put towards international talk and text from Australia over 5 days (it can also be used for roaming in select countries).
When should I activate an Optus prepaid add-on?
You should consider activating a prepaid add-on when you’re coming up to the time when you’d use it. In the case of data, this would be when you’ve nearly run out of your recharge’s data allocation and if you’ve got no data in your data bank. For international travel, consider activating an add-on before you hop on the plane overseas, and for international talk and text, consider activating an add-on when you’ve run out of minutes and texts included in your plan.
