When we experience a beautiful moment like witnessing the aurora borealis, or milestones like baby’s first steps, we’re inspired to photograph it and share it with friends and family. But how can we get the most from our phone camera and maximise the beauty in the moment? 

Features like quick lighting adjustment or pinpoint focus in a tap are just some of the tricks to capturing a better image. There’s also composition, action shots and creative ways to use panorama that can help create the perfect mood.

With Burst Mode you won’t miss a thing. 

This mode is great when you’re travelling and you need to be ready for anything.  All you have to do is hold down the shutter button and it will automatically take around 10 photos per second until you take your finger off the button. 

It’s perfect for sporting events, concerts, street photography… anything that moves unpredictably.

It’s simple to adjust exposure in a swipe, whether you’re indoors or out in the sunshine.

Simply tap on the image to set focus, then swipe up to make the image brighter or down to make it darker. You will notice the sun icon move along a dial. You know you have the lighting right when the main focal point has nice detail and colour. 

Get creative and play around with exposure to achieve interesting silhouettes and brilliant whites.

Setting focus is so simple and will result in a cool, crisp image worthy of a double tap. 

All you have to do is frame your shot and tap the screen on the main focal point of your image.  A yellow box will appear on the point of focus.  With this in mind, you can quickly and easily play around with different points of focus and depth of field.

Now you’ve learnt lighting and focus, here’s how you wow with composition. 

Composition is what takes your photos from average to amazing. All you need to do is use the grid tool. 

To switch the grid tool on go to Settings > Camera > Grid > ON

When you open the camera, you’ll notice lines on the screen. Those lines help you find focal points by using the “rule of thirds”. Generally, the focal point should be positioned at the intersection of the lines. 

The grid tool is a great guide to start improving composition skills. After some practice your instincts will kick in and you can work without the grid.
