Travel tips for the eager traveller

Whether you’re heading on holiday near or far, for a few days or a few months, here are some handy tips, tricks and advice to get the very best from your travels.
Roll up, roll up!
Roll up those clothes rather than fold them and you’ll save space and reduce wrinkles.
Call your bank
It’s always a good idea to give your bank a buzz and let them know where and when you’re off to, so your cards aren’t suddenly frozen due to you buying a cuppa in Copenhagen.
Get some rest
An eye mask and ear plugs are great not just for noisy flights, but noisy hotels too.
Keep a copy of your passport
Have a copy of your passport. It’ll make getting a replacement much easier should you leave it in the back of the cab, lose it or have it nicked.
It’s the little things
You’d be surprised how handy band aids and safety pins are.
Get in touch
Just in case something crazy happens where you are, register your travel and contact details with your loved ones, so it’ll be easier to contact you should the need arise.
Learn some lingo
Learning even the basics of the local language will get you a long way, even if it’s just hello, goodbye, please and thank you.
Stand out from the crowd
Surprise, surprise, you’re not the only one with a black suitcase. Jazz up your bag to make it easily recognisable, by adding a brightly coloured ribbon or large colourful sticker to it.
The chemist is your friend
While you’ll most likely find a pharmacy in most popular tourist destinations, making the translation may be a little tricker (or embarrassing) than need be. It’s a good idea have the basics with you on hand; headache tablets, anti-diarrhoeal medication, an antihistamine, travel-sickness tablets, and antiseptic cream. Oh and of course insect repellent and sunscreen.
Get some wheels
While there is a time and place for a backpack, traipsing around airports can be much easier with a bag with wheels.
Do some study
Doing a little research before you go will make your travels easier, and more enjoyable. From choosing the best area in the city to stay for the things you want to see, to museum and gallery opening times, special events taking place while you’re there, or even just where you can get a good coffee.
Enjoy some quiet
You’ll never regret investing in a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. They may be a little more expensive but are worth every cent when you’re able to silence the snoring gentleman, upset child or rowdy teenagers nearby.
