The desire for the flavours of home was all it took for lawyer-turned-small-business owner Eresha De Zoysa to build thriving e-commerce business Lord & Lion. With flavour, innovation and social responsibility at its core, take a look at Eresha’s story and pick up some tips for yourself along the way.

TRAVELLING THE WORLD THROUGH FOOD

Born out of a desire to enjoy a taste of home away from home, Eresha De Zoysa, founder of Lord & Lion, set out to leverage her family’s 120-year history as spice merchants and the rich produce they grow back in Sri Lanka, and transform these into unique spice blends available for purchase online, across Australia. A timely venture, launching in 2020, Lord & Lion’s product range has continued to satisfy the wanderlust of eager travellers, in turn nurturing a highly engaged culinary community grounded in their passion for food.

MANAGING LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN

With the produce for Lord & Lion’s spice blends grown across Sri Lanka and India, the power of the Optus network has significantly supported Eresha’s management of global logistics and supply chain. Through a combination of efficient decentralised team management, regular conference calls and operation of a solely online business, the Optus 5G network has aided Eresha in navigating the challenges of coordinating supply and distribution from abroad to Australian shores, in turn operating a well-oiled e-commerce machine.

GIVING BACK TO THE SRI LANKAN COMMUNITY

Inherent in Lord & Lion’s business model is its value of social responsibility, proudly donating 30% of all profits to community housing projects in Sri Lanka. As a testament to Eresha’s love of her home country and community, this selfless act demonstrates that a little can go a long way as an entrepreneur. While a regular visitor to the locations to which Lord & Lion contribute, Eresha leverages the Optus global network to FaceTime and liaises with project managers on the ground, watching their work come to life in real time.

FROM ONLINE TO ON SHELF

Having spent the better part of two years cultivating a thriving online business, and with it, some stellar culinary advocates, Lord & Lion is now preparing for its next move – appearing on menu and on shelf at some of Australia’s gourmet establishments. Already a feature on Franca Brasserie Potts Point’s cheese plate with Lord & Lion’s fancy fig and orange conserve, and stocked on shelf at Hill Street Grocer in Tasmania, this is only the beginning for Lord & Lion.
