#YOLO so make the switch to Optus’ fastest network ever in Yolla

Dedicated mobile coverage for more than 480 homes

Optus has heard the ‘holla’ for coverage in Yolla, switching on a new tower in the area and delivering much needed coverage and connectivity to North Western Tasmania as part of the priority round of the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program.

The Optus tower, located along East Yolla Road, will provide dedicated coverage to Yolla and surrounds, including the mountainous Murchinson Highway. More than 480 homes will now be able to connect to reliable Optus mobile reception for the first time, providing them with the ability to make and receive calls, texts and browse the internet.

Additionally, more than 100 square kilometres of area surrounding the site will receive new and upgraded coverage with their handheld devices, including 96 km of roads.

Optus Regulatory and Public Affairs Vice President Andrew Sheridan said Optus’ coverage in Tasmania is better than ever before and this new site in Yolla is contributing to its rapidly growing footprint across the state.

“Tasmania is a priority state for Optus, and we are thrilled to be delivering on this with a new site in Yolla, enabling even more locals to make the switch and join our world-class network.

“This site will unlock valuable opportunities for the local community, providing Tasmania with access to resources to remain as competitive as the rest of Australia. “We know access to reliable mobile coverage is more critical than ever for those living and working across regional Australia. We are thrilled to not only be enabling greater safety for those in North Western Tasmania with access to vital communications, but also helping to facilitate means of staying in contact with family and friends.

Regional Communications Minister, Mark Coulton said the Federal Government is pleased to be supporting mobile coverage in Tasmania and across the nation, with $35.7 million in total investment towards 54 towers in Tasmania under the Mobile Black Spot Program.

“35 towers are currently on-air in Tasmania, with a further 19 towers due to become operational by end June 2022,” Minister Coulton said.

“Not only will this tower make it easier for people to stay connected to family and friends, it will also make it easier to do business, access education and share content.”

Optus continues to invest to improve coverage, reliability and speed across its Australian mobile network, with first time coverage in Yolla providing a competitive telecommunications alternative for local residents and businesses.
