Optus today announced a $6 million commitment to improve 4G mobile coverage at Port Macquarie and along the Pacific Highway.
Optus spokesperson Eric Albina said the investment is great news for residents, small business operators and tourists wanting to stay connected.
“This investment will significantly improve coverage in Port Macquarie by providing better 4G coverage and faster download speeds for people living, working and visiting Port Macquarie,” Mr Albina said.
“In the past 12 months we have built and activated three new sites at Beechwood, West Haven and Sancrox which has plugged blackspots.
“Work has started to build new sites at North Haven, Herons Creek and Emerald Downs. Planning is underway to build an additional six sites at Lakewood, Kew, Quarry Rise, Morton Street in the CBD, Settlement City and Cooperabung.
“Once work is completed motorists will benefit from improved coverage and faster download speeds when travelling along the Pacific Highway.”
Optus will work with the community and the council to determine locations for these new sites.
“Today’s announcement forms part of a wider regional program of work which so far has seen Optus commit more than $26 million to deliver improved 4G services in and around Taree, Forster/Tuncurry, Port Macquarie, Coffs Harbour, Clarence Valley, Ballina, Byron Bay, Tweed Valley and Coolangatta,” Mr Albina said.
Port Macquarie is one of hundreds of regional areas enjoying Optus’ superfast 4G Plus network, which now reaches 95.9% of Australians.
The Optus network handles over 45 million calls and 80 million SMS messages each day and carries 6,000 terabytes of data each week. The growing demand for mobile coverage is why Optus is continuously raising the bar when it comes to improving mobile services in regional Australia.
