Optus today announced a $6 million commitment to improve the 3G and 4G network in Launceston and surrounds.
Optus Network Manager, Vin Mullins said this investment is great news for residents, businesses and 60,000 plus annual visitors to Launceston.
“We are committed to improving mobile coverage in Launceston and Northern Tasmania and today’s announcement will deliver the improvements residents and businesses have been waiting for,” Mr Mullins said.
“We will build twelve new sites at Rocherlea, Legana, South Launceston, Cataract Gorge and Summerhill North around Launceston. In addition, we will extend coverage at Swan Bay, Deviot, Kayena, Beaconsfield North, Hadspen, Cressy North and Westbury in the next two years.
“Once completed, these new sites will provide a significant boost for local coverage, including improved indoor coverage and performance whilst also providing greater stability and mobility on the Optus Network,” Mr Mullins said.
Optus will work with the local community to identify the best location for new mobile sites.
Optus also officially opened its latest Launceston store which has more than 100 square metres of retail space.
Optus Tasmania Franchisee Robert Elliott said the store is much larger, includes new digital technology to simplify transactions, improve customer experience and help small businesses.
“Our new store is much larger to meet the demands of customers. It features the latest design elements and new digital technology to help our customers complete their transactions faster,” Mr Elliott said.
“It also provides a dedicated Small to Medium Business area which will provide the kind of specialist information, advice and service that our SMB customers need to grow their businesses.”
The Optus mobile network handles over 50 million calls, 65 million SMS messages and carries 600 terabytes of data every day. This growing demand for mobile services is why Optus is continuously investing to improve mobile coverage across Australia.
