OPTUS LETS CUSTOMERS STREAM ENTERTAINMENT WITHOUT USING DATA

23 August 2016

Optus today announced the expansion of its mobile entertainment offering, giving eligible postpaid mobile customers a better way to be entertained with data-free TV, movies and music streaming.

Available on selected mobile and mobile broadband plans, customers can now stream movies, TV and music on selected plans without tapping into their monthly data allowance.

Tim Cowan, Head of Mobile Marketing at Optus said, “Our customers tell us they want the freedom to watch the latest TV show or listen to their favourite band, on the go. But we know that fear of using too much data is the biggest obstacle to making mobile streaming part of their daily entertainment habits.”

Increasingly customers are turning to video content for their entertainment needs, with Streaming Video on Demand (SVOD) users watching an average of eight hours of subscription-based video content a week.1

“A customer who watches an hour of video content every day can use more than 10 gigs of a data a month. With Optus’ data-free Mobile TV streaming, customers can now stream to their heart’s content without the worry of what it means for their next bill.”

A feast for the eyes…

Mobile TV combines the great content from Netflix and the newest addition to the Optus entertainment range, Presto, to deliver endless entertainment data-free to customers subscribed to Netflix and Presto. The Mobile TV program is open to any streaming video provider that meets Optus’ technical requirements and streaming video providers can join the program at no cost.

New and existing Optus customers on selected consumer and SMB My Plan Plus and My Mobile Broadband Plus plans, can stream all their favourite Netflix and Presto content in standard definition without using their plan’s monthly data allowance, for just $10 extra per month. Data-free streaming of Netflix and Presto will also be included at no extra cost on other selected mobile and mobile broadband plans. All customers will need is a Netflix and/or Presto subscription.

…and the ears

Building on Optus’ prepaid data- free music offer, customers on select consumer and SMB postpaid mobile and mobile broadband plans will be able to listen to music data-free from some of Australia’s most popular music streaming services, including iHeartRadio, Spotify, Google Play Music and Pandora.

New and existing Optus customers on selected plans can stream as much music as they like, including monthly playlists, exclusive releases and curated content from the leading music streaming services all without touching their data allowance. Downloads and content such as advertisements are excluded from both data-free offers.

“With Optus offering more entertainment options to customers than ever before, they will be able to enjoy the best in TV, movies and music, streamed data-free, wherever they may be using Optus mobile network.”

“Netflix and Presto are just the start of our Mobile TV platform. We look forward to adding even more of the video content that our customers know and love over the coming months. We’re working closely with a range of Australian and global content providers to ensure we can give customers choice when it comes to data-free streaming,” Mr Cowan said.
