4G live across University, Airport and many Darwin suburbs
Optus will deliver faster mobile internet to customers with compatible devices across greater Darwin after expanding superfast 4G services beyond Darwin’s central business district.
The 4G expansion follows the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) granting Optus additional early access commercial licences for 4G 700MHz spectrum.
Vic McClelland, Managing Director of Networks at Optus said, “More of our customers across Darwin can enjoy a faster and more reliable mobile internet experience and can download, upload and stream music, pictures and videos at superfast speeds.
The roll-out of Optus 4G will also mean a better 3G experience by improving network capacity as customers transition to the new 4G data network.”
Optus’ 4G expansion covers suburbs including Fannie Bay, Ludmilla, Coconut Grove, Nightcliff, Millner, Winnellie, Moil, Knuckey Lagoon, as well as Charles Darwin University and Darwin International Airport.
Jim Carew, Darwin Optus store owner and franchisee, said, “Flicking the switch on 4G across broader Darwin is great news for customers because Optus is bringing consumers and business more choice and competition to 4G mobile services.
“Mobile users who want more information about how to access this new 4G network should drop into the Optus store in The Mitchell Centre, Casuarina Square Shopping Centre or Palmerston Shopping Centre.”
Optus is undertaking a massive national 4G roll-out to over 200 regional and holiday destinations with plans to cover 90% of the Australian population by April 2015.
Optus customers with compatible 4G 700MHz devices such as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G3, Sony Xperia Z3 and HTC One (M8) will be able to access Optus 4G services. Customers should look out for devices with the “4G in more places” symbol.
