Samantha Jade, Empire of the Sun and Rudimental join surprise act Miguel to reward young Aussie volunteers
Over 3,000 Australian volunteers attended a live, money-can’t-buy exclusive concert at Luna Park last night, thanks to Optus RockCorps.
The Optus RockCorps concert, presented by Nokia, featured performances from Aussie sweetheart Samantha Jade, alternative electro pioneers Empire of the Sun, English electronic music quartet Rudimental and a surprise performance from American R&B artist Miguel.
The exclusive gig was the reward for young volunteers who donated four hours of their time to an Optus RockCorps community initiative. You can’t buy a ticket, you can’t win a ticket, you have to earn a ticket to the show.
Samantha Jade, who performed at the Optus RockCorps concert said, “I think the concept of having to earn your ticket to attend the Optus RockCorps concert is brilliant and I’m proud to be involved. The vibe I experienced whilst on stage was awesome because I knew that all the volunteers watching really felt like they had done their part to be there.”
Surprise act Miguel said, “Congratulations to the volunteers for all their hard work, the energy they brought to the evening was incredible. It was such an exciting night!”

Optus RockCorps in 2014
Now in its second year in Australia, Optus RockCorps gives everyone the chance to get involved in volunteering to make a real difference in their communities.

- 3,000 tickets earned in Sydney
- 12,000 volunteer hours in Sydney over the five week period
- Over 40 painting, planting and landscaping projects completed
- 1,000 litres of paint used
- 4,500 muesli bars eaten
- 8,000 bottles of water consumed

Designed to help out all over Australia, Optus RockCorps volunteer projects will occur in Brisbane from Saturday 22 March with the reward gig on Monday 21 April. The Melbourne leg of the tour will start on Saturday 5 April with the reward gig on Wednesday 23 April.
Stephen Greene, CEO of RockCorps added, “Now it’s time for Brisbane and Melbourne to get involved and make a positive impact in their communities in return for an awesome show. We’re excited to announce New York indie rock band, American Authors as the first act to rock the stage at the reward gigs with more exciting artists to be revealed soon.”
