Little Athletics NSW will celebrate the expansion of its Underprivileged Athletes Assistance Program this Tuesday 30 April, thanks to $8,000 in funding from the ‘yes’ Optus Community Grants program. The funding will help 82 children from low income families participate in sport without the prohibitive costs of registration, uniforms and footwear. Little Athletics NSW is a not-for-profit organisation that offers young people across New South Wales access to facilities to improve their fitness in a family-friendly and social environment. Neil Sandall, President of Little Athletics NSW said, “Little Athletics has limited budget to support younger athletes with registration costs. Thanks to the ‘yes’ Optus Community Grants program, we can offer more children the chance to access our facilities, improve their athletic skills and have fun while developing friendships in their local community.” Helen Maisano, Associate Director, Corporate Social Responsibility at Optus said, “Optus is delighted to support Little Athletics NSW and provide financial assistance to low income families or children from broken families so they can participate in community sports.” The annual ‘yes’ Optus Communities Grants program awards funding of up to $10,000 to not-for-profit organisations that help build social inclusion and reconnect disengaged youth in communities. Since 2008, Optus has awarded $880,000 in grants to 165 community organisations across Australia. Neil Sandall and Little Athletics NSW members will be at Little Athletics NSW this Tuesday to showcase aspects of the project.
