AUSTRALIANS CAN NOW LIVE THEIR SOCIAL LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS WITH OPTUS AND MOTOBLUR

30 March 2010

Optus also launches new ‘yes’ Social and ‘yes’ Business Complete plans

Optus announced today it will be the first Australian mobile operator to offer Motorola’s unique mobile experience MOTOBLUR™ with the launch of two new handsets, the Motorola DEXT™ and Motorola BACKFLIP™, exclusively to Optus customers.

Michael Smith, Managing Director, Optus Consumer said, “With more people connecting, communicating and sharing content online, there has been an explosion in the popularity of social networking websites such as Facebook®, Twitter, MySpace and YouTube™. This popularity has now been transferred to the mobile phone with smarter devices making social networking more accessible.

“Social networking websites are extremely popular among mobile users, responsible for over 80 per cent of the traffic on our OptusZOO mobile portal. That’s why we’ve developed new mobile plans which will impress even the most social of social networkers, providing unlimited access to these sites,” Mr Smith said.

The Motorola BACKFLIP and DEXT are the first smartphones announced in Australia to feature MOTOBLUR, allowing customers to sync contacts, emails, posts, messages, photos and more from sources such as Facebook®, MySpace, Twitter, Gmail™, work and personal e-mail and LastFM. Content is automatically pushed straight to the home screen, in easy-to-manage streams allowing users to spend less time managing their life and more time living it.

“With MOTOBLUR’s unique functionality, combined with Optus’ generous new ‘yes’ Social and ‘yes’ Business Complete plans, there’s no excuse for customers not to live their life without limits and make social networking work for them,” Mr Smith said.

To complement the launch of the Motorola DEXT and BACKFLIP, Optus has released new mobile plans which all provide unlimited* access to MOTOBLUR ‘Happenings’, Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and YouTube. These data-centric plans have been specifically designed to ensure customers can make the most of MOTOBLUR’s unique features. Competitively priced, the Motorola DEXT is available for $0 Upfront on the ‘yes’ Social $49 plan over 24 months# (including 500MB^ of data per month) while the Motorola BACKFLIP is available for $0 Upfront on the ‘yes’ Social $59 plan over 24 months# (including 1GB^ of data per month).

Optus’ new ‘yes’ Social plans offer generous data allowances for email and web browsing, calling and SMS value, plus unlimited access to the most popular social networking sites. ‘yes’ Social plans start at $19 per month which includes 100MB^ of data and range up to $99 per month including 3GB^ of data, all offered as 12 or 24 month plans.

Optus has also developed four new rate plans to help small and medium businesses put social networking to work. The ‘yes’ Business Complete plans allow business customers to communicate more effectively with their customers via social networking, while managing their messages and emails, quickly, easily and on the move. Optus’ ‘yes’ Business Complete plans also offer unlimited voicemail and unlimited standard national SMS on the $59 and above plans plus unlimited access to popular social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

Optus customers will be able to purchase these new handsets exclusively from Optus shops, Premium dealers, Business Partners, online and via Telesales from 9 April 2010.
