OPTUS FIRST TO LAUNCH INNOVATIVE MOBILE BACK-UP SERVICE

Optus today launched an innovative new SIM Backup service offering its post-paid and pre-paid customers, businesses and consumers, a simple and secure solution for backing up contacts stored on mobile phone SIM cards.

Optus SIM Backup gives new and existing Optus customers the ability to keep a duplicate copy of the names and numbers saved on a SIM card. The service is currently offered free of charge to all existing Optus pre-paid and post-paid customers within Australia.

Optus customers will have to get a new SIM card in order to receive this service. The new SIM card can be provided to them at any Optus World store.

Chris Lane, Group Director Products & Delivery, Optus Consumer said, "SIM Backup is an exciting new service only available from Optus. It is accessible on most mobile handsets with a compatible SIM card and allows Optus customers the ability to securely save up to 500 contacts. In being first to market with this exciting new service, we are once again proving our commitment to making life simple for customers.

"People have come to rely heavily on mobile phones for storing important contact details. Anyone who's lost a phone will know all too well the inconvenience of losing important contacts - not to mention the time consumed in resaving them. Whatever happens to a customer's SIM card or handset, the SIM Backup service allows immediate access to all SIM contacts, storing them safely and securely on the Optus server.

"SIM Backup can be activated by an Optus dealer, or self-activated online via Optus Zoo which is available to all active Optus mobile customers. Customers can view all contacts via Optus Zoo. By simply selecting SIM Backup from the Communicate menu on the Zoo portal, Optus customers will enjoy the freedom of updating and editing contacts on their SIM cards," Mr Lane said.

SIM Backup operates seamlessly for the customer using a proprietary over the air technology to ensure that all information on the customer's SIM is updated on a regular basis.

Most handsets support the SIM Backup service, although should a new compatible SIM card be required, it can be provided free of charge at an Optus World dealer or by calling Optus Customer Service on 1300 300 309.

Optus will be contacting all its mobile customers to inform them of this service and to give them details of how to get the new SIM card.
