OPTUS LAUNCHES $49 MOBILE CAP INCLUDING PUSH TO TALK

Optus has upped the ante in the Australian mobile market with the introduction of the Optus $49 Cap Plus PTT – the first $49 monthly mobile cap to include Push to Talk. “Keeping in touch with your ‘tribe’ is very important for young people and Push to Talk is the latest way to interact with groups quickly and easily. You can talk to five other people at the touch of a button. And now it’s within the convenience of an affordable $49 capped plan,” said Michael Smith, Group Marketing Director, Optus Consumer. “For $49 per month, customers can use up to $230 worth of mobile services including calls, SMS, MMS, international calls1, Optus Zoo browsing, voicemail, 124YES directory assistance and, for the first time, Push to Talk1. So we are offering customers the freedom to use a wide variety of mobile services – while being in full control of their monthly spend. “For people with friends and relatives overseas, the inclusion of up to 50 minutes of international calls within our $49 cap is very attractive,” Mr Smith said. The Optus $49 Cap Plus PTT is available with a number of plan and payment options. Customers can join month-to-month with the freedom of no long term contract. They can keep their own handset or choose a new one from Optus’ extensive range and pay it back in monthly instalments over 12 or 24 months. Customers that commit to a 24 month plan are rewarded with a discount on their handset and make repayments over 24 months. The Optus Push to Talk service is available on the following Nokia handsets: 6020, 6170, 5140 and 7270. These Push to Talk-capable handsets also operate as normal mobile phones for calling, SMS, MMS and Optus Zoo services. As there are times callers don't want their conversation to be heard, Optus is developing PTT Group SMS – to send an SMS to a Push to Talk group, planned to be available later this year.
