PERSONALISE YOUR OPTUS MOBILE WITH COLOUR PICTURES

12 March 2002

For the first time Optus customers can download full colour pictures to their mobile handsets following Optus' launch of the new Ericsson T68 into its network this week.

Optus is the first carrier to develop a unique easy-to-use website application giving customers the ability to download full colour pictures onto the T68 handset.

Allen Lew, Managing Director, Optus Mobile said customers want the ability to personalise their phones.

"In the past they could personalise their phones with different screen colours, ringtones and logos. Now with new LCD technology from Ericsson, and with application development from Optus, customers can download their favourite photographs onto their mobile.

"People have been personalising their computer screens for years with images of their favourite film stars, sports heroes, pets and family photos - now Optus customers can do this on their mobiles.

"From our website, customers can take any image saved on a computer desktop or downloaded from the web, and have it automatically sent to their mobile. Now you can have a different photograph on your handset everyday."

Mr Lew believes this type of innovative application development with handset manufactures is a sign of things to come in the industry.

"Allowing mobile phone users to handle photographs on their mobile phones is part of our plan to enhance the functionality of mobile devices for customers beyond just voice, text and images.

"It is also part of our decision to package applications that make technology advancements more useful to customers in their daily lives.

"From messaging to entertainment, information services to tailored business applications, the ability of an operator to package applications for different types of mobile phones is vital to helping our customers realise the full potential of their mobile devices," Mr Lew said.

The Optus 'My Picture' service is currently only available to users of the Ericsson T68, however, Optus expects to add more handsets once they become available on the market.

It costs $1.99 per picture downloaded to the handset plus WAP costs. As a special introductory offer, downloads will be free until 31 March 2002. The Ericsson T68 will retail at $449 on a 77 plan.
