Upcoming Family Mobile Plan Changes

Thank you for choosing Optus. We’re committed to continually improving our network and services for our customer’s needs as technology evolves.

What’s changing?

From 5 October 2026, we will be retiring our Optus Family Mobile Plans.

This will impact new and existing customers in the following ways:

  • From 20 July 2026, you will no longer be able to purchase a new Optus Family Mobile Plan.
  • Existing Family Mobile Plan customers can recontract with a new handset and add new Family SIMs and/or Kids SIMs to their Family Mobile Plan up until 30 September 2026. From this date, customers will no longer be able to do this.
  • From 5 October 2026, each individual SIM associated with a Family Mobile Plan ($165 Primary SIM, $0 Family SIMs and $29 Kids SIMs) will be moved onto an in market mobile plan.

What plans are impacted?

From 5 October 2026, the $165 Optus Family / Optus Plus Family Mobile Plans will be retired. Each individual SIM that is associated with an Optus Family Plan – including the primary SIM, each $0 Optus / Optus Plus Family SIM added to the plan and each $29 Optus Kids/Optus Kids Plus SIM added to the plan – will be moved to an in-market $60 Small Optus Choice/Choice Plus plan.

The table below shows exactly what's changing including discounts that will be applied to the monthly price of the plans to which impacted services are moved. Customers who are impacted by these changes have been notified using the contact details we hold.

Frequently asked questions

How will I know when I’ve been moved to the new plan(s)?

There's nothing you need to do. We will begin migrating customers from 5 October 2026, and it may take a few weeks to complete the migration of all impacted customers.

Once you've been moved to the new plan(s), you'll be able to review your new plan(s) details in My Optus app or My Account, with changes reflected on your next bill.

I thought my plan was in contract?

You're on a month-to-month plan. However, you may also have a 12/24/36 month device repayment with us for your phone or other device, which isn't changing.

Will I be able to keep the bonus data I have?

Bonus data on your old plan(s) may not carry over to your new plans. Bonus data bolt-ons that will not carry over are:

  • 100GB Shared Data
  • 10GB Shared Data
  • 20GB Shared Data
  • 25GB Extra Shared Data (12 Month)
  • 40GB Shared Data
Will there be any change to my device payments?

Any current device repayments you have will remain the same.

Will my direct debit amount automatically update?

Yes, if you pay for your service via direct debit, the amount will automatically update from your next payment cycle after 5 October 2026.

You can view and manage upcoming payments in My Optus app or My Account.

Can I cancel my Family Plan?

You have the right to cancel your Family Plan. You will not be charged a cancellation fee. However, if you have any device repayments left to make, you will still need to pay out your remaining device repayments.

Can I stay on the Family Plan rather than being moved to an in-market mobile plan?

This will not be possible as we will be retiring the Optus Family Mobile Plan.

Can I change my plan(s)?

Yes, you are free to change your plan(s) to eligible in-market plan(s).

If you change to an in-market plan before the migration occurs, any discounts or promotions that they are currently receiving may no longer apply and you will not be eligible to receive the discounts or bonus data that you would otherwise have been eligible for as part of the migration.

If you change to an in-market plan after the migration occurs, and you change to an eligible $60/$70/$90 Optus Choice / Choice Plus, any discount/bonus data that you received as part of the migration off the Family Plan will remain. If you change to a non-eligible plan, you will lose any discounts or bonus data that you received as part of the migration.

Will I still be able to share data?

The mobile plan(s) to which you are being moved to, share data (within Australia) with other eligible plans on the same account. More specifically:

  • the monthly data allowance for each Optus Choice plan on the same account is shared with each other; and
  • the monthly data allowance for each Optus Choice Plus plan on the same account is shared with each other.
