Optus ID Requirements

To apply for a new account with Optus and order a device / plan, you’ll need to provide 100 points of ID with a minimum of 1 primary ID. More information on accepted forms of ID can be found below. The ID that you provide must be current (expired IDs cannot be accepted).

Primary Identification – each example = 70 points

  • Australian Driver's Licence
  • Current Australian Passport (Australian or International with a current visa)
  • Current Proof of Age card* (with photo)
  • Australian Learners Permit
  • Australian Boating Licence
  • Australian Shooters Licence or Firearm Licence

* If you’re using a Proof of Age card, a current Medicare card must also be provided

Secondary Identification - each example = 30 points

  • Medicare card
  • Current Credit / Debit card
  • Existing Optus account number
  • Valid Tertiary Student ID card (with photo, student number & institution)
  • Full Australian Birth Certificate
  • Australian Citizenship / Marriage Certificate
  • Pensioner Concession card / Veterans Affairs (= 40 points)

Accepted only if issued within the last 30 days to Current Address

  • Mortgage documents
  • Current Rental Agreement / Bond Notice
  • Current Vehicle Registration

Accepted only if issued within the last 90 days to Current Address

  • Most recent Telco / Utility bill
  • Bank statement
  • Current Rates Notice
